Located within an exclusive concession of Abu Private Reserve, Beagle Expeditions explores a wild and spectacular corner of the western Okavango Delta on their Kweene Trails. What makes this area so special is its remoteness, with access granted only by helicopter.

The core principle of each safari is to offer an authentic and genuine connection to the Botswana wilderness, tailoring each safari around guests’ interests as far as possible. The camp facilities are simple yet comfortably crafted, designed to remove the trappings of over-designed luxury and embrace the greatest luxury of all: to be wild and free. Each guest can also be assured of fantastic food with a carefully crafted focus on fine wines and premium beverages, topped off with great service and one of Botswana’s best guided safaris.

This unique safari offers two camps, both available for exclusive use or as part of a shared experience. When booking for 4 or more guests, you’ll enjoy the camp all to yourselves, while bookings for 2 or fewer guests will be part of a shared experience . With a maximum of 10 guests across 30,000 hectares and only two vehicles on the property, there’s ample space to explore. A 4-night journey includes 2 nights at each camp, switching sides, with the same dedicated team for a seamless, personalised safari.

Accommodations

Kweene Trails features a fully serviced mobile walking camp, with classic East African-style canvas tents that are comfortably appointed while maintaining a light footprint. Each tent is outfitted with proper beds, en-suite bucket showers, and eco-flush toilets. Lighting is solar-powered, and details are simple but thoughtful—designed to create comfort in the wilderness without compromising the authenticity of the experience.  

A central mess tent provides a communal dining and relaxation area, with a firepit for evening storytelling and star-gazing. The atmosphere is intimate and communal, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared discovery.

Activities

Kweene Trails is all about exploration on foot, led by one of Botswana’s most experienced guide teams. This is a true walking safari, offering total immersion in the land, its rhythms, and its stories:

• Walking Safaris: Every day brings a new route, tracking animals through floodplains, woodlands, and islands. Learn to interpret spoor, identify birdsong, and understand the bush through the eyes of your guide and tracker. Wildlife often includes elephant, lion, hyena, buffalo, giraffe, and antelope—but the focus is on the entire ecosystem, from the ground up.

• Game Drives (Limited): While the experience centers on walking, a vehicle is used for access and occasional game drives, especially at the beginning or end of your stay or to follow up on specific sightings.

• Cultural Connection: The Kweene guiding team often includes San Bushman trackers, whose ancestral knowledge of the land provides deep, spiritual insights into the natural world. Their traditional skills, tracking methods, and bushcraft add a unique and powerful dimension to the experience.

• Star-Gazing & Storytelling: With no light pollution, nights at Kweene are magical. Gather around the fire and listen to tales of the bush, natural history, and ancient ways of life under a sky ablaze with stars.
