Down to earth Delta Camp

Delta Camp is a rustic safari lodge situated on a secluded island in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, overlooking the renowned Chief’s Island. Accessible exclusively by light aircraft, the camp offers an intimate experience within this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Accommodations

The camp features eight individually designed chalets constructed from natural materials such as reed and wood. Elevated off the forest floor, these chalets provide panoramic views of the surrounding waterways and floodplains. Each chalet includes en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, and some are uniquely integrated with the island’s indigenous trees, enhancing the connection with nature.

Activities

Delta Camp emphasizes low-impact, personalized safari experiences, offering activities that allow guests to explore the Delta’s diverse ecosystems:

  • Mokoro Excursions: Guided trips in traditional dugout canoes navigate the intricate waterways, providing a tranquil perspective of the aquatic flora and fauna.

  • Walking Safaris: Accompanied by experienced guides, guests can embark on bush walks within the Moremi Game Reserve, gaining insights into tracking wildlife and understanding the region’s flora and fauna.

  • Cultural Visits: Opportunities to visit a nearby baYei village offer a deeper understanding of the local community’s traditions and lifestyle.

By focusing on these activities, Delta Camp provides an authentic and immersive safari experience, allowing guests to connect deeply with the natural and cultural heritage of the Okavango Delta.

Additional Amenities

  • Main Area: A sitting room open to sweeping Delta views, a library, and a raised deck facing the Boro River and Chief’s Island

  • Family-Friendly: Dedicated family houses, children’s toys and games, and child-oriented guides

  • Sustainability: Solar powered, with no fuel tankers crossing floodplains and an active tree welfare program protecting old-growth species from elephant damage

  • Connectivity: No Wi-Fi or internet, by design

With no motors, no Wi-Fi, and over three decades of continuity under the same family and staff, Delta Camp offers a genuinely old-world Okavango experience built entirely around mokoro and walking safaris.
